step 2. walk cycle. (work in progress)
decided i should attempt a walk. the main goal is to have the walk feel a bit traditional while incorporating some flashy-ness to it. liking the way it's turning out so far but it's far from done. any input is appreciated. i'll post a revised version soon. thanks for stopping by as always.
TO DO LIST:
1. add some movement on the scarf.
2. figure out the tail.
3. add the back arm.
4. minor tweaking.

p.s. thanks to the talented tom smo for helping me out with embedding flash files on blogger.

step 1. character turnaround.
here is a character turnaround of a character i would like to develop. the goal is to make an animated short one day. i think the next step is to make some model sheets of the character in various poses to get a feel of it's personality. once i do i will post them here. hope you dig.
-s.
p.s. changed my blog name from "ioblog" to "animployment." i never really liked the old name too much. when i started this thing i always wanted to name my blog something clever. with the state of the economy being the way it is and also working more and more as a freelancer, the new name makes more sense.

finding emo.
i've been told from time to time that i can be a wee bit emo. in the past i never took offense to this however now a days the kids try too hard and the genre has become too mainstream. gone are the days of dudes wearing members only jackets, polo shirts, dickies pants, dress socks and cons while listening to sunny day real estate. the scene is now packed with a bunch of wussy tweens wearing eyeliner and skinny jeans while cutting themselves listening to my chemical romance. god i miss the good ol' days circa 1998. special thank you to everyone who has been leaving me comments. <3
lack of posts = very busy.

i can't get over how good super smash bros brawl is! the whole concept of nintendo characters beating the living *ish out of each other is amazing. kirby and meta-knight (not pictured) are so badass it's not even fair playing as them. oh well can't wait for mario kart wii in a couple of days. thanks for stopping by as always!

huggies commercial
cold hard flash posted an article today about a huggies commercial that i worked on about two months ago. i have to say that the commercial looks excellent given the short amount of time everyone had to work on it. i was responsible for creating the mouth library for all the characters and designing all the props. congrats to all the talented people who worked on the project. big ups to mike carlo (character design, animation) and dan forgione (animation) who headed the project for bringing me on board. i would work with you guys any day of the week.

cool news
so about two weeks ago i was approached by the iphone dev team in regards to the steve jobs caricature that i did way back last year . they wanted to use the image for their iphone pwnage tool which is a program that allows iphone users to install custom software onto their iphones. i kindly granted them a creative commons license. the tool went public yesterday for mac users and windows users can expect a version in the next couple of days. the recent traffic to my blog and the amount of emails about the image have been overwhelming (over 5,000 hits and counting). i would just like to extend my thanks to iphone dev team for including a link to my blog inside the software credits and also on their site. for more information about the tool visit their site iphone-dev team. here is a screen capture to a video that is floating around the net. i was told that the text that my jobs is saying is "surprise" in russian. lastly, i created a youtube channel five months back to host videos. the sole purpose of the channel is to create silly vlogs about my work and also to respond to some of my friends around the globe who make video vlogs on the net. be sure to click the subscribe button on my youtube page to stay in the loop. new art next week. thanks for stopping by new and old viewers. (^_^)
peace.

dog eat dog.
this week's topic on art jumble was idioms. it took a while to come up with an idiom that would make me want to draw. in the end "dog eat dog" really jumped out at me so i decided to run with it. i've been meticulously trying to pay attention to detail with these last two posts and i think it's starting to pay off. thanks for stopping by as always. *enjoy

lil' red. (leap day '08)
ok so i've been a member of art jumble for a while now but i never got the chance to contribute to it. i was really inspired by this week's theme and i remembered that i had sketched out a quick version of little red riding hood about two months ago but never got around to finishing it. the first version with the bg is what is up on art jumble. i really liked the way the characters turned out so i decided to separate the two before little red turns to a bloody mess.- enjoy.

p.s: i wanted to post this on leap day to officially say that my blog turned one on the 28th. hopefully this year i can post more stuff.

snow day
i almost forgot how to post on blogger it's been so long. truth is i have been bombarded with freelance which is always a good thing. so from now on when i am not posting frequently it is safe to assume i am swamped. lol. yesterday nyc was hit with it's first significant snow storm so i decided to bust something out. i remember the good ol' days of snow fun when schools closed and all you had to do was grab a sled or a plastic bag and head for the hills. thanks for stopping by.

good riddance 'OHHH seven! hello '08!
well 2008 couldn't have come quick enough. 2007 is definitely going down as a year to forget. the year started off very promising with a new job that i was psyched about (i know i am beating a dead horse! lol) which ended up leaving me and 50 other people "PSYCHED!" its just that nothing has happened in eight months to really get myself to forget about it. the bright side is that 2008 is on the horizon and i am finally ready to move on. the best part of 'ohhhh seven was starting this blog and getting a chance to meet and work with different people through freelance gigs... and barcelona of course! thank god 'ohhh seven is f*cking over! whhhhweeeeewww!
i'm going to turn the page :
here is to better artwork, better "long-term" jobs, frequent blog posts and the chance to working with you guys soon. here is to 2008! have a safe and happy new year!
p.s. here is a quick little doodle with a sprinkle of photoshop. thanks for stopping by.

pinky dinky doo
first off... happy belated thanksgiving to all of you. after battling with a cold this past week, i finally got enough energy to do some black friday shopping at the local mall. that being said i passed a little vending cart in the mall selling pinky dinky doo dolls. for one i had no idea that the show finally had dolls available! you would think that after working on a show as a character designer for a year and a half, someone would have told me about this. anyways... i was so excited to see these that i had to buy them. these little plushies put me out of $32 but they represent the best memories of my short animation career. congrats to the whole pinky crew! you can also pick them up on amazon. here is my take on the pink headed girl with a huge imagination and her pet guinea pig.
let the holiday craziness begin.

Child's Play
HALLOWEEN POST: PART 1
here is a rendition of charles lee ray also known as chucky! i know this might sound a bit crazy to all you horror fan-boys out there but child's play is hands down my favorite horror flick of all time. my cousin made me watch it as she was babysitting me when i was 8 years old. i will never forget coming home and making my mom throw out my "my buddy doll" in order to get me to sleep. maybe next year i'll do a bad ass version of chucky with his stitched up face. (bride and seed of chucky) oh.. almost forgot they are going to remake the original child's play and give it a complete reboot. that is what inspired me to do this.
PART 2 of this post will be posted on halloween. so check back soon.

What's Going on Mr. Met?
i am at a loss for words. embarrassed. this team is tanking big time.

Let's Kill The Phills!
first off i really like to draw mr met. i feel that this definitely much more expressive than my earlier take on him. i am hoping to do much more during the playoffs and moving onto next year! (he might even get his own blog who knows.)
anyways :)
after watching my beloved mets get annihilated by the phillies two weeks ago i came up with this. the philly phanatic has to be the most annoying mascot in baseball. someone has to set this maniac straight. the phillies are are hanging on a thread, holding on to a six games deficit in the nl east. starting friday 9/14 mr.met and the mets shall get their revenge by doing what should have been done two weeks ago.....that is... kill the phills and win the division again. sorry dagan i know that this is your second favorite team in baseball next to the stank-ees! ha ha.
thanks for stopping by.
LET'S GO METS!

UPDATE: Thanks to Matt Cerrone and the people over at MetsBlog for mentioning me on their blog! This is the ulti-met blog for up to date mets news.

iGod
here is a rendition of apple ceo steve jobs in all his ipod glory. for those of you who didn't know... apple released brand spanking new ipods yesterday. check 'em out they are freakin' ridiculous! apple just keeps destroying the competition to the point where its not even fair anymore. for all you pc loving "microsofties" out there, face the facts apple is back on the map!
....anyways :)
i just wanted to keep messing around with painter again. the bg was done in painter and the mr. jobs was done in good ol' flash. i have to say that flash's new ability to import photoshop comps easily is a miracle.
hope you enjoy this one and thanks for stopping by!

You Seek Yoda! You Seek Yoda!
i am not such a fan of the prequel trilogy but the only thing that lucas got right were the scenes in episode III that had chewbacca and yoda sharing some screen time together. the part where yoda climbs chewbacca's back was so awesome. it still gets me two years later. i thought it would be fun to have these two together again for a blog post.
-enjoy and thanks for stopping by!

"Stick 'em Up!"
ok the past two months have been pretty busy for me. i've been trying to get as many freelance gigs as i can and so far so good. i just finished a project for half.com that should be on the internet soon and before that i was helping a friend designing backgrounds for an animated pilot that he is going to pitch. on top of all that, i just got back from Barcelona, Spain after spending two amazing weeks there with the lovely "GF". thats the 2 month recap. not posting a single thing in two months is a very terrible thing. almost embarassing. for those of you who have been checking out this blog looking for new stuff i apologize. i am working on not making this a habit.
about this post:
i wanted to draw a cowboy for some time now and i also wanted to mess around with corel painter X. this is what i came up with. i think i am going to continue to learn painter because its a really awesome program. (tip: painter is a big memory hog so make sure you have enough RAM in your computers!) hope you like this one! thanks for stopping by.

Cafe Expensive!
it has been a while... i know.
whew... by now i am sure the whole NYC animation industry knows what happened on monday at a particular animation studio. ( if you dont know you live in a bubble.) NYC ANIMATION IS A JOKE and the artists are the punchline!! all i can say about the matter is that i have never worked with such a talented group of people in my life. i am grateful for that. i am still fighting the shock. what a shame. i am going to be posting links of some of the artists i worked with in the next couple of days so be sure to check them out. being unemployed will fill the great void that i have left on this blog. (shout out to big al, thanks for pushing me!)
anyways... about this post.
about two weeks ago two friends (mike carlo and bob fox) and I went to cafe metro to buy some vitamin water. now .. i understand that these chain food stores in manhattan can be downright expensive but cafe metro took it to the next level. we spent $3.00 + tax on some stupid ass water that i could find at a local bp in staten island for $1.00. the funny part about the whole thing was that we the lady at the register was not phased by our reaction to the price. rather than do the right thing and demand our money back we stood there dejected and walked away with our $3.25 vitamin water. this was the story that inspired these designs -enjoy.

TMNT
i recently just saw the new TMNT movie. aside from the loopy plot and dated "cowabunga" lines the movie was very good. i thought the animation and the action poses in this film were excellent. they finally got the turtles right this time. i based my design on the old school comic and just sprinkled some of my ideas into this pic. my only wish is that the turtles were not for kids and more violent, hence the blood. anyways thats just me. hope you like it and thanks for visiting.

See Ya!
today is my last day at animation collective. over the past 10 months i have met and worked with some of the most talented people in the ny animation circuit. big shout out to (here comes the name dropping) mike carlo, dagan, al pardo, omar, chrissy, smo, frank rivera, bob, mr.mr., holt. i am so grateful to have worked with all of you and i am sure i will bump into you guys again. I start my new gig very soon and can finally have a bit a break from all the insanity that has plagued me the last three weeks.
here is an anime "chibi" version of me going ape sh*t!
